Glycerin Cannabis Tincture

This is a great recipe for a glycerin cannabis tincture. A very effective marijuana recipe which you can use as pure droplets or mix it in other dishes.

Estimated Time: 6 hours – 5 weeks
Serves: Too many to count; probably about 100 servings

glycerin cannabis tincture

Materials and Ingredients:

  • 1/2 gallon (64 fl oz) of U.S.P. Food Grade Glycerin
  • 84 grams (3 oz) of trimmings (or 70g/2.5oz if using quality buds)
  • An object that can finely grind your marijuana. Such as a blender or a Herb Grinder
  • A crock pot or some clear, sealed glass jars, preferably Mason Jars
  • A fine mesh strainer or a Cheese Cloth

Note: The crock pot method is recommended

Instructions: (Crock Pot Method)

  1. Set the crock pot to low. If possible, keep the crock pot on a ‘Keep Warm’ setting; some crock pots will burn the tincture even at a low setting so take warning! If you are worried, try the Clear Jar method (see below).
  2. Grind up your cannabis as finely as possible using the coffee grinder or blender.
  3. Place the glycerin and the cannabis in the crock pot.
  4. Let sit for 6 – 24 hours.
  5. Let cool.
  6. Strain with a cheesecloth (a paper coffee filter will not work!). This will be a long process because the glycerin is very slow moving and sticky. It is well worth it though!

Instructions: (Clear Jar Method)

  1. Grind up your cannabis as finely as possible using the coffee grinder or blender.
  2. Place the glycerin and the cannabis in 1 or more clear, glass jars. A well sealed cap is crucial.
  3. Place in a window or another sunny location and let it sit there for 3 to 5 weeks. Shake it each day to help release the desired cannabinoids.
  4. Strain with cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer (a paper coffee filter will not work!). This will be a long process because the glycerin is very slow moving and sticky. It is well worth it though!

Serving Suggestions:
If using the Crock Pot Method, the glycerin may be very hot at first, so BE CAREFUL! Let cool for a good 15 to 20 minutes if possible. Maybe longer.

Glycerin based cannabis tincture stores well, but not as well as alcohol based tincture. Refrigeration is recommended.

A drop or dropper full under the tongue is enough to ease pain. Test a small amount before moving on to larger doses!

Purchasing a medicine dropper bottle is recommended. These can usually be purchased in health food stores or through this website.

Recently I have been going holistic, due to sickness & the GMO foods…I have STE Lupus & I am tired of the modern medicine that does nothing but make more illnesses…SO off the meds.& using herbs, during my research “cannabis” has come up several times…I tried it once in high school with horrible side affects “not for medicinal use” LOL…so I was skeptical with using it…Today, I came across your site, so I am going to start off with the Glycerin Cannabis Tincture…Hoping this relieves some of my pain..Now I just have to find it :-) I know that they are contemplating on legalizing it in PA…thank you for sharing Gods herbs

Just remember that different strains are good for certain pains and illness. For most effectiveness you need to find the strains that work most efficiently for your conditions.

i have read both ‘leave in a sunny area’, your method and also – to leave in dark area…..any idea why? the dark method used approximately the same amount of weed to glycerin, included shaking or stirring daily, and to set for up to 60 days…..thank you for your input.

Having read this I believed it was rather enlightening.
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this information together.
I once again find myself spending way too much time both reading
and commenting. But so what, it was still worthwhile!

Could you verify if the herb needs to be decarbed (pre cooked lightly in the oven) first?

The crock pot decarbs it during the slow heating process. Sunlight will help decarb the herb in jars, but it takes a very long time. I recommend up to 8 weeks for proper decarboxylation. Also, not all beneficial cannabinoids need to be decarbed. Some patients can’t handle the psychoactive effects of THC, but THCA can be just as beneficial.

I’ve read that if you want to consume the tincture orally and get buzzed you have to decarb it first. If you plan on vaping the tincture, the vaporizer decarbs it as you smoke.

Smokeless Cannabis Remedies will fix whatever ails you. Tincture made from Organic Cannabis and Glycerin is a wonderful way to dose as it is fast acting. It doesn’t bring relief for as long as capsules made from Cannabis infused into organic coconut oil or grape seed oil, but it works much faster (within 15 minutes, usually) and capsules take an hour or a bit longer. Salve is a wonderful SCR that works INSTANTLY. It is incredible for arthritis, muscle pain, bone pain, neuropathy and the like. Just pain in general. I hope you will learn more, our website is one place that has some information – http://www.cannakitchenandresearch.com/ommp-qualifiers-and-which-product-to-use.html

    Hi,
Tried this the other day, good result.
3.2 grams Sour Diesel, dried, powdered.
Heat 1/2 fl. oz. vegetable glycerin to 375 F, stir in herb in small (1/8 tsp.) increments. Will foam up a bit.
Stir for another 5 minutes after last herb added.
    Herb should be getting dark.
Strain WHILE STILL HOT through 70 micron stainless steel mesh.
Take solids from strainer, mix into another 1/2 fl. oz. glycerin at 375 F.
    Cook, repeat straining.
Combine liquids, allow to cool; dark brown-orange milky looking product.
    MUCH thicker that pure glycerin.
1 eyedropper is usually enough for relaxing, two is fun. Three? Don’t go to work.
Theory sez THC ‘vapes at 370 F, catch vapors in a liquid. Seems to work!
    Liquid ‘vape!

Can you use the strained folage, after you make the tincture, to make capsules?

Is there a potency difference between crock pot method which is finished in 24hrs vs the jar and shake daily for 2 months method? SO, Will the slow warm crock pot method destroy some cannabinoids or is it just as effective as the shake daily for 2-6 weeks method?
