THC, the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana (cannabis), is not readily digested by itself. Because THC is fat soluble it can be extracted into milk in order to make it more accessible to the body.
Ingredients:
1 cup/250ml Whole Milk or Cream (if vegan, use So Delicious Coconut Milk or Creamer - this is the fattiest vegan milk/cream alternative, and therefore the best for extracting cannabinoids!)
1/8oz or 3.5g of finely ground cannabis*
*The finer the powdered cannabis, the better this method will work.
Instructions:
1. Add the milk to a pan or a double boiler over medium heat until it is gently simmering.
2. Lower heat and stir cannabis in. Allow the mixture to continue simmering for about an hour.
3. Allow to cool and then strain with cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer
.
4. Pour into an airtight container in the refrigerator until needed. Use before the sell by date on the milk used.
Serving Suggestions: Drink straight (careful - this cannabis milk/cream is very potent, so use less bud if you want or use more milk and share!) or use in any recipe that calls for milk as an ingredient.

weight to volume
Would you perhaps have any idea about how many table spoons an 1/8th of an ounce would be once finely ground?
Thanks!
Adding cream?
I've seen other recipes saying that you should add cream to the milk aswell to increase the fat levels. Do you consider this neccessary or will it work fine either way?
milk
if i used .5 of full melt hash per cup of milk would that be good too?
Help
I did as the instructions say exactly, simmered it for an hour however I used 2grams instead of 3.5, and my bud wasn't that finely ground. (It wasn't a powder, it had the consistency of very fine loose leaf tea.)
Anyway, the cup of milk I had prepared initially boiled down to around two shots worth. Does this happen ? What did I do wrong ?
It is Condensing
After boiling the milk it can candense down. You can add small amounts of milk to make a consistency you like. Can boil down for a whipping cream or thin out for milk or ice cream.
Good Luck
Cannamilk
I only have 2 percent milk so would it be okay if i put a chunk of butter in the milk to add fat?
Does the milk evaporate much
Does the milk evaporate much during this process or should I get the full cup back?
Thanks
COOLING
Does it have to cool or can I drink it shortly after turning off the heat ? After straining is the cannabis worth saving or should it be disposed of ?
Either hot or cold
You can drink it either hot or cold, but make sure it's not too hot when you go to drink it! Also, we recommend squeezing the cannabis when you strain it to get all of the cannabinoid infused milk out of it. It isn't worth saving because as long as you simmered gently for long enough, all the cannabinoids should be extracted into the milk.
cannamilk
hubby and i use cannamilk to make hot pot chocolate. we add any stems that we have collected (so as not to waste anything) and about two joints worth of pot to two cups of milk. we get a nice mellow buz and some awesome pain relied (my normal pain level is about an 8 and it took me down to about a 4 for about four or five hours and wore off very slowly).
Cannabis as Medicine
I'm glad to hear that you get such pain relief from cannabis! :) I have Crohn's Disease and know that cannabis is the best (safe!) pain reliever there is! What chronic disease/illness/ailment do you have?
type of cannabis
sorry if this is a dumb question. did you use bush leaves or hydro buds? i only smoke hydro buds and 3.5g of it seems a lot for a just a cup of milk or cream. (i'm giving my lungs a break but still need weed to help with anxiety attacks). any help would be appreciated.
You can control your dose
We recommend using buds, but you can use the leaves, stems, and seeds too if you want - it just won't be as strong.
3.5g is a lot. Milk/cream this strong is good for cooking (macaroni and cheese, for example) or in coffee, tea, etc. since it will allow you to control your dosage and not consume the whole 3.5g at once. You can lower the amount of cannabis you use if you just want to drink it straight (or even if you want to use it in other recipes involving milk/cream), or increase the amount of milk/cream to extend it, or both. Experiment with the amount you need to consume to achieve anxiety relief and find your perfect dosage!
Your lungs will thank you! :)
problem with amount of supplies
what is 1/8oz/4g? That makes no sense what so ever. 8 ounces is approximately 240 grams so what does the 4g mean?
1/8 of an ounce = 3.5 grams.
1/8 of an ounce = 3.5 grams. It said 4 grams previously, to round up, but we have since updated it to be more accurate!
Bhang
What might happen if you use Vanilla extract which has around 35% alcohol, add it to milk at 200 degrees for say 15 mins.. Will the alcohol help loosen, and then the milk then bind the THC? Is 15-20 mins. long enough? I'm finding a lot of differing opinion on how long to simmer for.
I guess I'll find out in the morning!
Either way
It could help, however THC binds best with alcohol that is at least 50%. Not sure if 35% is enough to make a difference. Our site recommends simmering for about an hour - that should be long enough to extract all the THC. With or without the addition of vanilla extract, you should end up with a great cannabinoid extraction. :)
hey
sorry if this is an obvious question, but if you make a mixture with only say half a cup milk and 1.75 grams cannabis (half mixture) would you only need to let simmer for half hour?
No need to be sorry. :)
It's best no matter how much cannabis you use to very gently simmer for about an hour. This helps to ensure that all the cannabinoids have been extracted into the milk. 30 minutes will still work, but it may not be as strong of an extraction.
