Hello,
I'm new to forums, and still learning how to use them. I replied to another post instead of posting this as a new topic.
I've just had my first experience with powdery mildew after buying clones for the first time - I'm back to seeds.
After trying a lot of treatments, I thought it was under control - no visible white - but now that I'm harvesting and trimming, I'm finding little pockets of white at the base of a few leaves in the bud. While I'm bummed I don't have any smoke until the next harvest, I bake a lot and want to salvage this crop to use for making butter.
I cut a few tops and soaked them in high pH water and baking soda for 24 hours to kill the mildew, and someone suggested just doing a fast dry and cooking, bypassing the curing. I use the water/butter method in Cameron and Greene's "Marijuana Cooking", and they suggested that changing the water a few times before adding the butter would drain off the dead mildew.
I still have some tops I haven't harvested yet, so I'm looking for suggestions. If I can skip soaking the tops, can I just dry and cook? Any suggestions on the best way to quick dry, since I'm only using this for cooking?
Thanks so much for any help you can give.
I am not sure if the "mildew" or mold on your plants is water soluble or not and if that would be an effective method. I would highly suggest throwing away any plant matter with mold on it.
To quickly dry the marijuana you can put it in the oven at a low temp, like maybe 100-150 for several hours, until it is dry and crumbles between your fingertips.
