How-to's

THC, the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana (cannabis), is not readily digested by the human body. It needs to be extracted into certain (soluble) foods in order to be properly absorbed. Therefore, it's important to know what you're doing before attempting to cook with cannabis - because without proper extraction you may end up with leafy cookies, wasted weed and little to no high. For more information check out our article on the Science of Cooking with Cannabis. But don't worry! Listed below you'll find tutorials on how to make cannabutter, ganja ghee, glycerin and alcohol tinctures, green dragon, marijuana milk, and cannabis flour. Enjoy cooking with cannabis!

  • How to make Cannabutter

    - Cannabutter, also sometimes called "marijuana butter" or "weed butter" is an emulsion made by infusing butter with raw cannabis. Because THC is fat soluble, butter makes an excellent vehicle for combining cannabinoids (the compounds responsible for the plant's unique psychoactive effects) with foods.

  • How to make Cannabis Ghee

    - Ghee is a type of (delicious!) clarified butter commonly used in Middle-Eastern countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Egypt. Much like cannabutter, cannabis ghee is made by combining marijuana and unsalted butter over heat. Ghee is different from cannabutter however, in that it must be cooked over a much lower temperature to allow the water to boil off completely without burning the proteins. Because it is clarified, Ghee can be stored for extended periods of time without refrigeration as long as it is sealed in an air-tight container to prevent oxidation.

  • How to make a Cannabis Alcohol Tincture

    - Though it is not water-soluble, THC is alcohol-soluble, meaning it can be extracted into a number of alcohol tinctures and/or liquors. Enjoy in moderation!

  • How to make a Cannabis Glycerin Tincture (two methods)

    - Glycerin-based tincture is one of the newest advancements in medical marijuana science. For patients in need of a great ganja-based medicine without the invasiveness of smoking, or the effort of eating, this is perfect. Very tasty and very potent!
  • How to make Cannabis Milk

    - Cannabis milk is a mixture of cannabis, or more correctly, cannabinoids and whole milk or cream (or coconut milk/cream for vegans). This mixture may be drank by itself, or used in cannabis coffee, hot chocolate, or other milk based recipes.

  • How to make Cannabis Cooking Oil

    - Cannaoil is a cooking-oil based product that has been infused with marijuana cannabinoids (the compounds responsible for the plants' unique pharmacological effects). Cannaoil is created by heating the oil and ground cannabis at a very low temperature for a long period of time.

  • How to make Cannabis Flour (cannaflour)

    - Cannabis flour, is essentially finely ground and sifted marijuana leaf or bud. It may be used in place of flour in recipes that call for it. The recipe should also contain butter or oil to allow the cannabinoids to be released for more efficient digestion. This one is for those who do not have the time to make an extraction and have a lot of extra leaf or trim to use.

  • Green Dragon

    - THC can not only be extracted into fats, but into alcohol as well! Green Dragon is marijuana infused alcohol and is sure to give you both a buzz and a high. This is an easy to follow ganja recipe that is great for parties! You can incorporate Green Dragon into any mixed drink you'd like, Jello Shots, or just drink it straight. (If you're looking for a smaller amount of Green Dragon for yourself, try out our Nip Dragon recipe.)
  • How to make Hempy Oil

    - This recipe is a thicker alternative to Cannabis Cooking Oil. This oil can be used to make Hemp Hermits as well as other delicious cannabis treats. This recipe uses Peanut Oil as its base, so those with allergies should plan accordingly.
  • Cannabis Strain Guide

    - Weed comes in so many different varieties! It seems like every day somebody is asking “why did this kind of weed make me so sleepy?” or “why does this strain inspire me so much?”… It can sometimes be difficult to know precisely what strain is right for you.
  • Bhang (Cannabis) Drink

    - This Bhang drink is a popular, traditional Indian cannabis drink that is made with milk, spices, and almonds. This is an extremely potent drink!
